The author's friend is " a connector of souls, a purveyor of conscious ideas and people capable of great positive action."
Frustrated with a lack of speedy return on an investment in time and energy in her workplace, a friend of mine was forced into some heavy duty contemplation. She had put many years of hard work into her position at a large media company and it seemed every time there was a door opening to propel her forward into a better job, the door would suddenly slam shut.
Having great patience and tolerance, she awaited the next opening, only to find, once again, the door would shut. It seemed there was some reason she could not move up or forward. For months she tried to identify this reason, label it, understand it. Why did this keep occurring This elusive "why" could not be answered. She meditated on it, and even prayed for some sort of relief and understanding. Again, many months would pass and doors creating a small window of opportunity would seemingly vanish, never fully opening.
Throwing her hands up in the air, she decided to just concentrate on what was in front of her. She made a conscious decision to be in total awareness of every moment at work. Observe everything without reacting, just watch. She had always been very good at her job and now, day after day, began to see the tiny accomplishments that occurred in her work day. They weren't the big attention getters, but instead the small movements, decisions and choices she would make, that would impact others.
One day she had a revelation that hit her like a ton of bricks. Working in media she would often have the occasion to meet some very interesting people. People who can effect change on national and global levels. She had introduced two of these people to each other, and quite frankly might have initiated one of the most important meetings that could impact hundreds of thousands of people, in a cathartic way.
My friend is a connector of souls, a purveyor of conscious ideas and people capable of great positive action. It occurred to her that often, when she connected these people, great things would happen. Projects were born, ideas were developed further, lives were and continue to be changed. No one knows this but her. No one is going to pat her on the back. But she realized that it's those small cosmic accomplishments that can move mountains and change lives.
