Can you keep the Secret? PDF Print E-mail
By Travis Thomas
A simple but profound truth that can put you on the right path.

A neighbor of mine lent me a video he owned (not one of those videos) that I have been thinking a lot about this week. And, the ideas have come in quite handy because I seem to be having a tough week accepting what my current employment situation seems to be.

You see, I tend to sell myself short. I have always done this to a certain degree. I like myself, I really do, but for some reason I tend to limit what I feel I can ultimately achieve. I have BIG dreams, but I seldom give myself permission to accept them as a possibility. Why not?

I don't know - do you?

Well, this video I watched, called "The Secret" articulated the secret to success for all of the great thinkers through history - and how this kind of thinking is available to all of us. In a nutshell, it is the Power of Attraction - The belief that there is a universal law that responds to our thoughts. So, if our thoughts are filled with positive, pure, peaceful, and loving thoughts - well than that is exactly what we will attract and receive more of.

Conversely, if our thoughts are monopolized with negativity, fear, failure, discouragement, frustration, etc. - well than we will continue to attract more of that.

Quite simply: Thought = reality.

If you think it - you be it!

Part of the secret is to envision the kind of life or things you want to achieve - express gratitude for what you already have - and then to live your life with the joy and feeling as if you already possess what you strive for. The more you connect with the feeling of goodness of having what you want - the more goodness you will attract into your experience.

In my own life, I view this law of attraction as the universal law that surrounds each and every one one of us. I see it as Spirit - Love - and I take it a step further to see it as the only true reality. So, connecting our thoughts to the goodness of everything around us means we are seeing the spiritual reality - the only reality.

But, this week...right now...I have been struggling to hold my thoughts on that goodness. I have felt discouraged and frustrated - feeling like I don't have the answers, and that my path isn't unfolding as I had expected.

So what do I do?

Do I pack it up? Ditch this spiritual perspective? Tell "The Secret" where to stick it?

Not yet. I am hanging in there, trying to let go of my personal opinions, and concentrating on all of the good surrounding me right now. There is plenty in my life to be grateful for - right here and right now! I can get this through the frustrating days – because I still expect goodness and success to be the result.

I am also breaking through personal limitations. Every setback seems to try to validate that my dreams are not realistic or legitimate. But, I know this cannot be the case in Spirit. I have every talent and skill needed to be the person I want to be - and I am not going to give up on my goals - no matter how humbling the disappointments can be.

In Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy writes,

"Your influence for good depends upon the weight you throw into the right scale. The good you do and embody gives you the only power obtainable."

I see the right scale as being the choice I make on a moment-to-moment basis. Am I choosing right now to see negative (or the unreality), or am I choosing to express joy and gratitude, thus allowing myself to receive more goodness?

This can be a struggle - but I know the result is worth the fight!

Why, just today, I was co-speaking at a spirituality expo and had the opportunity to talk with numerous people about how these ideas can be applied quite practically. During that time, the frustration I had been feeling was replaced with gratitude. Although I was upset about how one circumstance had gone, it didn't send me on a negative spiral.

The Secret is simple - if you want more good in your life - you need to live it like you already have it. So if you act like you already have it - than why do you ever need what you are pretending to already have?

Exactly!

Let me know what you think about that ;)
