Wherever you work, play or live, the ideal location is the same.
Most of us think from time to time, what is the ideal place I’d like to be?
It may be a great destination or vacation spot or the job or company we most want to work for. It can sound very good but sound very far off or hard to reach, too.
When I’ve been tempted to see someplace else as the place I want to be, I remind myself of the good that is happening right now where I am. Is that sometimes hard to do? It certainly can be. But I know that Spirit is present, and the cool thing about Spirit is that it can be everywhere at one time, or ever-present. And logic can lead you to conclude that where God, Spirit is – there is good. And if that is where I am, there is good here. No matter what. If you are asking “what good?” or “how can I see more of it?” ask yourself, “what does God see in this situation or place?” That helps me re-orient and open my thought to what might be good – even among challenges.
You hear people talk about “being in the present.” That is a good reminder to look at our thoughts and efforts right now instead of only looking to the future for good or for happiness. Why not choose to like the place you are in? Sure some places may not be great to be in – I understand that. But you can chose how you will react and feel.
I was listening to an inspirational radio show a while ago and I heard an amazing story about the power of your choices and your thought. It was the story of a man in a concentration camp. To the surprise of many this man was actually healthy and happy and was very well liked by all the groups interned in the camp. When asked how under horrible conditions the man could do so well, he said he had seen in his life too many examples of what hate did to people. Hate had destroyed his precious family and he decided immediately that he would not live hating anyone and instead would love everyone he met. This story made such an impact on me about the choices we make and what we value and choose to think about. We aren’t faced with a decision this dramatic and so certainly we can also choose to live with love right now.
As a favorite author of mine, Mary Baker Eddy, says, “Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take.” To me that means if you decide to spend energy on hate or something negative you will be consumed by it and your life will be predominantly negative. But if instead you choose to focus on the present good, you will experience more joy and satisfaction.
So my “place to be” is here and now.
