Containing the "tongue"... - 2006/10/17 05:09
In the work setting, I do find that many times over it is very difficult to remain silent in the midst of what I perceive as standards that need to be raised to a higher level...In saying this, I am speaking of maturity of those who make up the work force...There are no perfect people; there is lack of maturity; there are character flaws; there are complicating factors of individuals who may attempt to leave personal issues at home without success; there are moments of stress that cause the usual stressful work situations to be pronounced; and there are those who do not have the capacity to care as deeply as others...This being said, there evolves the very fuel for the flame of discontent...However, there is a solution, and that is using Godly standards as one's goals...
So, I use a quote that I wrote often in my work-life...It goes "Silence is sometimes the best manager of my soul"...I often am tempted to speak when I should remain silent because to speak would only aggravate the existing turmoil or discontent...I believe that silence allows God to work and to deter that which would make matters worse...
I encourage those who in a stressful environment where people are not only at different levels of maturity; either physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually; that they contain "the tongue" and let God work rather than trying to take matters into their own hands...I do know that prayer, silence, and faith are a great combination...For it is by God that we are protected, enlightened, and become useful vessels in this world...It is my desire to set an example of goodness even though I am an imperfect human being...I leave all issues for which I am not responsible to others who must answer for themselves, and I continue to pray for them as I make every effort to contain my tongue on a daily basis...Another quote from my book "Words in Bloom" that I often use is "When temper is tamed, it becomes temperance"...It is my prayer that the silence that I can and do use can become a soothing ointment for the wounded spirits of others...
