Re:Purpose - what does it mean? - 2006/04/19 17:02 It seems that this is a pretty "good" question, given the few responses. (Kellie - yours is great, no criticism intended). I think this speaks to the larger issue of knowing, of understanding, the role of purpose in life, whether it be as reflected in one's 'life' (whatever we are 'being') or in one's life's roles whether at work or at 'church' or at sports, or at... whatever we are 'doing'. These two levels are distinct, yet I think the 'doing' part is a reflection, depends, on the 'being' part. Of course, there is an influence the other way around, so that they are interrelated.
So, what is purpose? At an overarching level...I think it says...the totality of you, who you are, fully, and your life's effects on "the world" around you. The past, present and future life of yours, as it moves thru its development and its dynamics, and its effects on others and the 'spaces' you 'touch'.
Of course, there is more...but that I think is a 'short' expression of purpose. In a more focused level, I think we can refer to 'the intentionality of one's targeted action/s'.
I just came across a book (not selling, mind you): "Is your Genius at work": check it out. Also see the discussion on...http://blog.thirdage.com/?p=286, and http://ongenius.com/blog/ These provide more. Thank you!

Re:Purpose - what does it mean? - 2006/04/19 17:39 One day we suddenly realize we're not the center of the universe. There are OTHER people out there. They appear to be thinking and feeling the same kinds of things as I. But we aren't always in harmony. This goes on for a while and then one of us is gone. And then another. And then someone else appears in the world. And on and on. It's easy to understand why we "go" but why do we "come" in the first place? One answer is: "for no reason other than conception happens, and all that follows it." Is our interest in "purpose" a way of coping with the absurdity of this sequence? Is there actually another reason for being, and if so, where is the evidence of it?

Re:Purpose - what does it mean? - 2006/05/30 04:04 I am jumping in late here, but hopefully you are still checking this discussion.

Put it this way...your purpose. There has never been a "you" before, and there will never be another "you" like you again. We are not interchangable clones. Like snowflakes...we are all unique. So, wouldn't it make sense that we all have a unique purpose to express?

It has to be unique, because since we are spiritually unique, everything we do, including our purpose must be unique.

We can all be passionate about similar things, but we all bring a different perspective to the table...a perspective like none other...because it is you.

Purpose to me is living my uniqueness to the fullest. So, I don't think it is pointless or meaningless...that just sounds like human resistance to our true calling.

So Visitor...what drives you...excites you...motivates you?
