work and teamwork - 2006/09/06 15:10
Two of my favorite quotes I wrote are:
"God owns the garden, but He gave me a hoe."
"Teamwork is kind collaboration." (from my book "Words in Bloom")
(Regarding the first quote) I think if we remember who owns what we "till" that we will be ever more mindful of the fact that we are only tenants and not eternal possessors of the earth and its contents; and therefore, we perhaps will be be more respectful of the Creator and what He has so generously shared with us for a season.
This is a poem from my book, "Words in Bloom". I think it is important for us to remember that we are merely the gardeners of His garden. It is my hope that you will enjoy the following poem, "God's Tenant".
God's Tenant
Owner of a thousand hills And all that does exist, God alone does reign... He allows man to use All that He owns... Creator--lover of man--One God supreme... Man cannot create Nor does he ordain... God alone decides Who may use all He owns... Man may think beause his name appears On title or deed That he owns all he sees... No--he is tenant of the Lord... Must we feel so pompous And raise our status high When we should be humble In our dear Lord's eyes? Possessors we are not Of home, health, or happiness-- Only tenants of the Lord Passing through this world... Could we but remember That alone we do not stand... Treasure all you use As tenant of the Lord For all that does exist Is subject to His hand...
(Regarding the second quote) I wrote this quote because a co-worker had been unkind to me in the work setting. I thought about the circumstances, and this is what came to mind. I thought how could I make a difference even when obstacles come about. It was from this perspective that I realized that in order for a group to work well as a whole that there must be the mixture of kindness and cooperation. I am grateful often for those little "life lessons" that come my way. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to experience even difficult situations for goodness and future actions and words are often dependent upon the very present difficulty before me.
God's blessings to you...Juanita Pittman-Brown www.pittman-brown.org
