Balance? - 2006/03/29 18:32 The work/Life balance is an interesting subject. Today people struggle with the balance, but the problem is that too many people see a difference in the way they work and the way they live life. Two sets of rules, when in reality, there is one set of rules, those set forth in the bible, which are inscribed within each of our hearts - our core values we are born with - integrity, compassion, humility, etc.
Trying to balance life and work is like trying to be two different people. Being compassionate at work isn't harder than being compassionate at home! Having integrity isn't an on and off switch - it's always on!
Love - the great equalizer - at home or at work!

Re:Balance? - 2006/03/29 19:33 oo, oo, this reminds me of something I just read in Keith Ferrazzi's Never Eat Alone: have a relationship-driven career. He writes: "When it became clear to me that the key to my life was the relationships in it, I found there was no longer a need to compartmentalize work from, say, family or friends. I could spend my birthday at a business conference and be surrounded with warm and wonderful friends, or I could be at home in LA or NY with equally close friends."

I love that! it's like, if you can't be with the one you love (honey) love the one you're with. And your life becomes a whole.

He also says this: "Balance can't be bought or sold. It doesn't need to be 'implemented.' Balance is a mind-set, as individual and unique as our genetic code. Where you find joy, you find balance." I love that, too!!!

Re:Balance? - 2006/03/29 19:51 This is good curt, worla...it makes me think that it isn't "balance" like two opposing entities trying to be equal, but more like integration.

Re:Balance? - 2006/03/29 20:13 I too am a Ferrazzi fan - great book! The book that needs to be written is "Never Be Alone"! Never eating alone is great, but to think that one is never alone, at work or at home, would bring comfort to many!
I have made countless business decisions that began with me feeling terribly alone (layoffs, terminations, etc.), yet each time I turned my thought to God, and listened for his/her guidance, the burden of the decision was removed. I still had to lay people off or terminate them, but my thought was elevated in prayer to the point where I was comfortable with the decision, or a different decision was made because I listened for guidance!

Re:Balance? - 2006/03/29 21:50 One of the more memorable ideas from Keith's book for me is this: "You gain trust by asking not what people can do for you...but what you can do for others. In other words, the currency of real networking is not greed but generosity." P. 21

Isn't that another word for "Love? Not counting the cost, but giving from an infinite supply of good that each of us already has.

Re:Balance? - 2006/05/16 14:32 Thanks for that quote from Keith's book. I've read that book too and really enjoyed it. I like this idea of the currency of networking (or relationships) is generousity.

Thanks for sharing. It is a good reminder - and I go to tons of networking events and can certainly approach it from a standpoint of giving not just expecting something for myself alone.

We gain by seeking to help others. I'm on it! I try and share ideas, events, books, tips and more in my work. And I know it blesses me. I know it is good and truly a critical part of my success. Love.
